UK Corporate Games Nottingham 2017 partners with Dame Kelly Holmes Trust

Europe’s largest annual multi sports festival for organisations and business people will be coming to Nottingham from 6th – 9th July 2017.

The Games are set to be a resounding success with many of the UK’s top companies already having entered alongside businesses of all sizes and type from Nottingham and across the East Midlands.  However, the Games team have also recently struck up another partnership with charity Dame Kelly Holmes Trust.  The Trust has been unveiled as the Official Sporting Ambassador Programme provider at a presentation in Nottingham on 21st February.

Dame Kelly Holmes Trust

The Dame Kelly Holmes Trust does amazing work, developing world class athletes beyond sport and then works with them to deliver programmes that transform the lives of young people facing disadvantage.

The Games is an event aimed at competitors of all ages and abilities and both organisations hope the partnership will lead to opportunities and benefits for everyone involved.

Dame Kelly Holmes “I’m really pleased that the Trust’s world class athlete talent will be present at this year’s UK Corporate Games in Nottingham.  Our athletes undergo comprehensive training and development to ensure they continue their high performance beyond sport.  I know they’ll be tremendous ambassadors and motivators for the teams taking part and hopefully continue to be involved post-Games to help establish a culture of high performance within each organisations workplace.”

– Dame Kelly Holmes, President and founder of the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust

Ben Sedgemore, Games Director for the UK Corporate Games Nottingham 2017 said: “We are delighted to partner with Dame Kelly Holmes Trust as we have seen the fabulous opportunities that the Trust creates for athletes on their life journey as well as helping to develop individuals from hard to reach groups.  These outcomes benefit everyone which is exactly the same ethos as our own.”

“When we deliver the UK Corporate Games everyone wins from the organisations to the companies to the local venues and economy, the host destination and its businesses; not to mention the local helpers and sport coordinators who are all trained, supported and given all of the same benefits and opportunities as the entrants.  You can’t beat a win-win!”

“We are thrilled that Nottingham has been selected as the host city for the 2017 UK Corporate Games.  The Games provide the ultimate mix of sport, business and tourism and we will be working hard with the organisers and partners to ensure they will be the most successful ever.”

– Brendan Moffett, Chief Executive of Marketing Nottingham and Nottinghamshire

“We are building a strong reputation as an event city and a home for major sporting events; the UK Corporate Games event is a great example of the kind of high profile event we can host.”

Major employers like Freeths, Asda and Ernst & Young have signed up hundreds of entrants for the Games, but they will be competing against large and small organisations from the locality and across the UK.  However it is important to stress that the Games is open to any organisation and every business is welcomed equally.

Participants can choose to enter any one of the 23 sports on offer – from netball to football, running to dragonboat racing and golf to go karting.  Many of the sports will be taking place at The University of Nottingham’s new £40m David Ross Sports Village.  The Centre houses a huge multi-court sports hall, seven glass squash courts and an international standard Table Tennis hall in addition to impressive accommodation in the surrounding area.  The Great Games Party will showcase a different venue as the Nottingham Trent Students Union has been selected to stage this major Games component.

Running in tandem with the Games, Dame Kelly Holmes Trust have a training and development plan on offer to business people as well as opportunities to meet some of the elite athletes to work with your business to develop sporting and business success.

Marie Robson, Employee Engagement Manager at the Trust said: “We have some great packages to motivate, inspire and support the company’s success at the Games.  With athletes from a variety of sporting careers, and several who have gone on to achieve coaching and personal training qualifications, we look forward to meeting as many teams ahead of the Games as possible, plus there’s an option for an athlete to join teams and compete, however, not in their career sport of course”.

Joanne Jackson, Olympic Bronze Medallist made an inspiring appearance on the night and the invited guests enjoyed a really interesting question and answer session with her facilitated by Louisa Preston of BBC London News (see headline picture).  Joanne revealed how she challenged peoples doubts about her ability into relentless hard work and determination which ultimately enabled her to realise her dream of standing on the podium in the Olympics in Beijing.

Representatives from interested businesses and organisations can reserve places at one of the Games’ presentations to find out more about the event’s benefits and the opportunities that the Trust offers to organisations of all sizes. For those interested in visiting Nottingham and learning more about the plans, there will be a venue tour known as the Team Leader Orientation Event that will visit most of the Games Venues on the afternoon of 7th March.

Get your boots, bats, bibs and balls and get ready to enjoy the ultimate mix of sport, business and tourism in Nottingham in July.

Save the date! Okinawa is raring to go for 2016

Okinawa 2014
Okinawa 2015

One of the first Games for 2016 has been confirmed. From the 11th to the 13th of March Okinawa is set to stage another wonderful Corporate Games. With thousands of entries and an electric atmosphere everyone agreed that the team on the Island performed brilliantly in 2015 holding their first Games and everyone is equally keen to be host of another amazing event.

Ben's LG Pics 162

Even the Mayor is excited about what the Games can deliver for the Island and for visitors alike.  He proudly commented

“Haisai! I am the Mayor of Chatan-Town, Masaharu Noguni.

With the blessed mild climate many people attended the Okinawa Corporate Games 2015 and enjoyed the networking through sports.

There is an Okinawan proverb,“Ichariba-chode” which means, “Once we meet we are all brothers” and as represented in this word, there are strong horizontal ties in Okinawa which also represents the warmth of Okinawa people.

The hospitality that the Okinawans originally have and holding the event meets the regional characteristics as thought in the concepts of Corporate Games.

I am hoping that many people will gather in Okinawa with the slogan of “Haisai!” and the circle of friends of Corporate Games will spread in the world with the Okinawa Corporate Games 2016.

In Chatan-Town we look forward for all your participation”.

In Okinawa dialect it is a light hearted word. General meaning and is similar to Konnichiwa, Hello, Aloha and Ciao.

Next year the team will be adding new sports which should be really exciting for everybody involved. New on the program is Baseball and Dodgeball, which are both really popular in Japan. Also Pool and Soft Darts will be added, both very uncommon sports for the Games but still great sports in which to compete. Last but not least, there will also be Soft Tennis added. Soft Tennis is a sport that is regularly played across Asia so it should be interesting for the Corporate Games as well.

Just like last year, there is going to be a number of great parties and celebrations again.  The Okinawan people provided an unrivaled welcome for everybody involved and with exemplary sports facilities, friendly competition and a powerful business and tourism community Okinawa is definitely a Games destination that is worth traveling the distance for.

Working closely together with OTS, Okinawa also has arranged great travel deals for everybody who is thinking about joining the Games there. OTS is the largest and most successful and experienced travel agency on the Island.

So, what are you waiting for? Sign up and be part of an amazing event. It is going to be superb for participants wherever you are from.

Corporate Games Great Games Party 2015 “S”et to be a “S”mash..

The Games are getting closer every day! Hopefully your preparations and sports training is going well ahead of this eagerly anticipated Games in Stoke and Staffordshire.  The excitement is certainly there for the 23 sports on the packed weekend programme but we know many of you will be making equally committed preparations for the awe-inspiring celebration that is the Great Games Party on Saturday the 27th of June. The fancy dress theme this year is the Letter “S”, so search out your snakeskin, your smurf suit or be a sexy seventies singer…the choice is yours.  As always a great prize awaits the winner.

We are also  proud to present this year’s venue for the Party. It is going to take place at Keele Student’s Union.

It is no exaggeration to say that the area has an array of terrific party destinations but in this Union we think we have secured the best of the lot!  This incredible venue has the flexibility and infrastructure to stage a huge spectrum of events, from formal dining and elegant soirees to live bands and performances from chart topping artists! Having benefitted from a recent £2.2 Million state-of-the-art redevelopment, this multi-award winning Union is one of the regions most sophisticated venues. Also it has been ranked in the top 4 Student’s Unions in the UK.  The sound and lighting is top quality and this is a big multi-room venue with something for everyone-including sensibly priced drinks at the multiple cash bars!

The Ballroom, K2, The Bubble VIP and the Outback area will all be utilised for the ultimate party at this impressive destination. The K2 is going to be used for our quirky silent disco that was incredibly popular last year. For those of you who have never experienced a silent disco, it is a party where everybody wears headphones (provided) and you choose your favourite DJ from two stars of the decks…each with a different genre of tunes. It is certainly different but that’s what made it such fun last time around.

The main room, the Ballroom is going to feature a new Live band for 2015 – interspersed with our favourite international funky house DJ – Stuart Ojelay who is really planning to get the crowd going.

Stuart has been part of the international House scene for more than 15 years and has performed on every continent in the world.
Long associated with the legendary Hed kandi, he’s headlined some of the World’s most glamorous events including Macau China, Punta Del Este Uruguay and Cape Town, South Africa, not to mention bringing in the New Year at Pacha, Florianopolis Brazil!
He mixes a variety of soulful warm ups, deep house, bass to sumptuous disco and main room anthems. From intimate clubs, beach & pool parties to festivals, his effervescent style never fails to serve up hands in the air action on global dancefloors.
On the production side, Stuart is becoming a household name with many tracks topping the worldwide download charts and was recently voted at Number 29 of the Traxsource House Artists of 2014.
Stuart also mixed, compiled and produced the ‘Hed Kandi Taste of’ series album, which topped the iTunes download charts.

The night will feature an array of amazing entertainment and a new Headline band for the main stage in 2015 – The Catalogues.

The guys have wowed the crowds across the Country.

The Catalogues are a collection of some of the County’s most exciting and in-demand musicians. Together since 2006, the band have been performing in venues nationwide.

The Catalogues have become renowned for their attention to detail when performing classic pop and rock hits from bands of the past 60 years.

As a band, they work throughout the UK for just about any occasion. The Catalogues are especially well versed at private functions, including weddings, corporate events, christmas parties, and graduation balls. Corporate clients include Marks & Spencer, BMW, British Gas and now they are all geared up for the Great Games Party 2015.

With hundreds of gigs under their belt and many years of live experience to boot, The Catalogues will be able to provide us with two top quality sets for an energetic and memorable live show.

The Catalogues are a five piece live band comprising of male lead Vocals/Guitar, lead Guitar, Bass Guitar, Keyboards/Backing Vocals and Drums/Backing Vocals.

Plus if you are not sure whether this party will be everything that we are telling you it will be, feel free to have a quick look at the video from last year pulled together by last years great Headline band Indio Black – click here to see a video for a glimpse of what is in store!

Could November be the Biggest Month in Corporate Games History?

Following on from the resounding success of the Corporate Games Tokyo 2014, the Asia Pacific Corporate Games will be taking place from 13-15th November 2015.

More than 6000 entrants from across Japan participated in a wonderful Games in Tokyo last year and the appetite seems stronger than ever to deliver an even more impressive Games this time around.

Local Games Director , Masao Tejima said “It has been 7 months since we staged Corporate Games Tokyo 2014, in which over 6000 entrants participated. We received many favourable comments and we saw participants becoming heroes and smiling. This year, we will be staging the Asia Pacific Corporate Games which should be an even larger Games, in the Tokyo Bayside Area.  This area successfully hosted the Games last year. Through the Games, we are looking forward to seeing you and hope everyone will interact each other with a great spirit of camaraderie and mutual respect”.

Such was the demand for places last year that the local organising committee have decided to add some universally popular mass participation team events to their exciting programme for the fun-filled weekend alongside the ever popular Dodgeball, Futsal and Baseball.

Tug of War will also be added so that entrants have a chance to flex their muscles and display their camaraderie in a different way.

Tokyo is a massive City with a world renowned business infrastructure.  Furthermore with sporting interest growing significantly following the award of the Olympics for 2020, health and activity seem to be on everyone’s agenda.

One of the Games major supporting partners is Mitsui Fudosan Residential who have both commercial and residential properties in the area.  Their representative Toru Inoue said

“Mitsu Fudosan Residential is aiming to revitalize and reinvigorate the feelings associated with the Tokyo Bayside Area (Tokyo Wangan Area) towards 2020 by creating a project called “WANGAN ACTION”*.

We decided to stage the Corporate Games in the Wangan Area last year as our one of our major  WANGAN ACTION initiatives. I was very impressed to see athletes competing, encouraging, and communicating with each other actively. We promise that the Games this year  will help participants interact with each other and the local community to energize and benefit everyone involved. We are looking forward to seeing you in the Games and we guarantee that the Games will create an array of opportunities for you and for your organisation regardless of where you are from.”

Some impressive venues have already been confirmed like the Yumenoshima Stadium that successfully hosted the massive Relay marathon last year.  Thousands of participants are expected for this sport alone and there will be half and full marathon options for people to enjoy.  Futsal is always popular in Japan and these great venues should witness a few great goals over the duration of the Games –  with Futsal Club Tokyo , Ramos Field and Ginza de Futsal selected.

Doug White, Global Partnerships Director at Games World Headquarters said, “after the resounding success of the Games in Tokyo last year we are delighted that competing companies will get the chance to enjoy another fabulous weekend in this powerful metropolitan prefecture, we know that visitors will have an incredible experience wherever they are from”.

Last year saw some incredible celebrations staged with popular Japanese artists like Rip Slyme wowing the crowds of party goers who all enjoyed the fabulous spirit at the Games.

The Asia Pacific Corporate Games will be held on the same weekend as the World Corporate Games that will be staged in Mexico City this year, so that weekend could be a huge one for sport, business and tourism.  What’s more the Australian Corporate Games will follow these two great Games at the end of November and there is even something for Winter sport enthusiasts with the inaugural Tignes Winter Corporate Games in France.

Enjoy your Games in the meantime whether they are in Queensland, Istanbul, the UK, Bucharest, Cape Town or another fabulous destination but get ready for November – as that could be the biggest month for the Corporate Games ever…

Breaking News: We have something special in Store for keen cyclists everywhere!

Cycling was a great success at the Word Corporate Games last year in Liverpool and resultantly we have been inundated with requests to include this growing sport on this year’s programme. In an attempt to satisfy these calls the Corporate Games Team have viewed a number of possibilities across the region and we now feel that we have found the perfect venues for these special events. So we are delighted to confirm that Cycling has recently been added to our packed 23 sport weekend programme for the UK Corporate Games Stoke and Staffordshire 2015.

There are not one but two cycling event disciplines that you can select and participants can enter 1 event or both. First up we have the challenging multi-lap 40K Road Race circuit AND the following day will see the staging of a difficult 16K Time Trial.

For the 40K Road Race we have decided that the perfect destination is the Curborough Sprint Course. It is a little bit further away from the main venues for this year’s Games but it is easily accessible by road and nestled near Lichfield in the outer edge of the County of Staffordshire. The course has a great reputation for car racing but it is also a British Cycling approved performance centre and this should make it the perfect destination for our Saturday morning Road Race. The road surface is in excellent condition and the sweeping bends and fast straights will make it an exciting challenge for cyclists of all abilities.

Then on Sunday morning we have the CTT approved Time Trail race in Lichfield over a challenging 16k to blow the cobwebs away after the Great Games Party on Saturday night! For anyone who wants to get a first glimpse of the road circuit feel free to have a look at this:  PS- we did not choose the music!

Cape Town Corporate Games Official Charity Tag Rugby: Adopt a School Programme

Corporate Games South Africa has been involved in this unique programme and adopted Siyabulela Primary School, based in Langa township outside Cape Town for the past two years.   As sponsors and supporters of Corporate Games you have an opportunity to Adopt your own School and become personally involved in this successful CSI programme.

Siyabulela is now a part of the national SARU Grassroots Development programme that will give the school the opportunity to play in leagues and to enter Tournaments run by the Tag Rugby® Association.

With the Tag Rugby® Adopt a School Programme, we are attempting to get children off the streets and away from the ills they are confronted with on a daily basis to enjoy sport with other children.

Muhammed Ali said “Champions aren’t made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside of them – a desire, a dream, a vision…. they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.”

By using Tag Rugby® (which requires no infrastructure and rugby experience) the learners in under-privileged areas with no facilities enjoy the feeling of running with a ball in their hands and having fun with their peers. Tag Rugby® can be played by boys and girls and there is no contact in Tag Rugby® so the fear of injury is removed from the game.

Your company can adopt a school it’s immediate area or can select a specific school. In many instances, especially regarding sport, the donated resources are often stolen, lost or put into a cupboard and forgotten about.

With the Adopt a School Tag Rugby® Programme, your company will have someone accountable for the donation and the learners at the schools will benefit by virtue of the fact that they are getting exercise whilst having fun. We have found that Tag Rugby® due to the very nature of the game improves learners’ eye-hand co-ordination and concentration levels in the school environment.

The programme qualifies for 100% tax relief in terms of a donation and all relevant documentation will be provided.

If your company would like to Adopt a School or if you require more information, please contact Stuart McConnell

Cape Town Corporate Games 2014

Originating in San Francisco in 1988 and rapidly growing in popularity each year, we are excited to announce that the third annual Cape Town Corporate Games will take place from 5-8 June 2014, with the V&A Waterfront playing host once again. What better venue than this to showcase the best that Cape Town has to offer?

Dr. Ivan Meyer Picture

We have great pleasure in announcing MEC Dr Ivan Meyer as our 2014 Patron. The Games has welcomed a great partnership between the Western Cape Government and the business sector, with previous patrons including the likes of Helen Zille, Patricia de Lille, Elana Meyer and Bulelwa Makalima-Ngewana. Meyer believes that “sport unites, promotes fitness, builds team spirit and brings a wide spectrum of backgrounds together”. Various networking and sponsorship opportunities have been created for the participating companies, creating a perfect blend of sport, business and tourism. We thank Shell, Sanlam, the V&A Waterfront and the Western Cape Government for their continued support and welcome them back to this year’s Games! South African sports enthusiasts will be pleased to hear that the date for the 2014 Cape Town Corporate Games has been confirmed. The third annual Cape Town Corporate Games will be held from 05-08 June 2014 at the V&A Waterfront and other supporting venues, bringing thousands of business visitors to the Mother City.

3rd South Africa, organisers of the Cape Town Corporate Games , are proud to welcome the V&A Waterfront back on board as the official host venue for this prestigious event.

David Green, CEO V&A Waterfront commented, “This year, the V&A Waterfront not only successfully hosted Corporate Games 2013 but also actively participated in a variety of events. We are proud to confirm our involvement in 2014, and having seen the positive impact on team spirit, we encourage corporates across the country to sign up and capitalise on the great team building prospects Corporate Games presents.”

Corporate Games is the world’s largest multi-sports festival for businesses and organisations, and brings global sporting competition within everyone’s reach. The V&A Waterfront is the perfect host venue to showcase some of the best that Cape Town has to offer as a tourism, business and sporting destination.

According to Nicole Visser, Marketing & Communications Manager at 3rd South Africa, this year’s event has received an enormous amount of interest from organisations across South Africa and the rest of the world. “Companies are keen to be involved in this opportunity of sporting competition, team building and networking,” said Visser. “The Cape Town Corporate Games is fast becoming one of the premier events on the corporate calendar.”

The number of participants has doubled since 2012 and there were 47 companies taking part in this year’s Games. The organisers are attempting to break the Corporate Games record in years to come which is currently held by Melbourne, Australia where 12 000 athletes participated in 2009.

The Corporate Games was founded to encourage companies to support their employees in pursuing a more active lifestyle. It enhances teamwork and cooperation at work, and provides valuable opportunities for networking and brand exposure – not to mention lots of friendly sporting rivalry and fun!
