We are delighted to be supporting The Marina Dalgish Appeal for the 2012 World Corporate Cup of Soccer. As a local charity, it seemed fitting to support such a worthy cause and one that is close to LFC’s heart.
For those who may not know, Marina Dalglish, wife of Kenny Dalglish, LFC manager and Liverpool legend was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2003 – a life-changing illness, and one that affected both her and Kenny’s entire family. It was one of the most difficult and challenging times of their lives. With the help of the wonderful team of doctors, nurses, oncologists and carers they were able to fight the disease. Without their skill, dedication, encouragement, professionalism, sense of humour, love and support, Marina tells us that she would not have made it through her cancer journey.
Kenny and Marina were so grateful and impressed by the support they received, along with the concern and understanding, that they vowed to try and repay a little of what had been done for them.
So they set up the Marina Dalglish Appeal and by 2007 they had reached an initial target of raising £1.5million and managed to open the Centre for Oncology at University Hospital, Aintree on 4th June 2007. They have now set themselves a new and exciting challenge in conjunction with Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology to help build a much needed Radiotherapy Centre, bringing treatment closer to patients for comfort and ease of access.
Kenny and Marina’s aim is to reach this target – and they need your help!
The Marina Dalglish Appeal would love your support – and will be fundraising across the Cup weekend both on and around Anfield
