On Saturday 17th September, the inaugural Europe Corporate Cup of Dragonboat Racing takes place in Stoke-On-Trent at the impressive Trentham Gardens. This event will celebrate the City’s accolade as European City of Sport and competing crews are travelling from large organisations like National Grid, QVC and Virgin Trains to race against local companies like Mitten Clarke and Recticel and the good news is, there are still some places left to enter!
Dragonboat racing is gaining in popularity as it is an accessible sport for people of all ages and no previous experience or sporting ability is required. The Games and Cups are always completely inclusive for all, so if you have been inspired by the Olympics and want to try a new sport this is your chance!
It will be a fun-filled but challenging day with each crew taking part in a 1000m challenge! All crews will race a minimum of 3 x 333m races with the fastest boats progressing to the final rounds. All boats, life jackets and steerers are provided. You just need between 15 and 19 people – one of whom should be your drummer to beat out the rhythm for your paddling! Your crew can be made up of staff, clients, friends and family.
Teams will register on-site on Saturday morning at Cadwaladers impressive Cafe, race throughout the day in the beautiful surroundings at Trentham before enjoying the Closing Awards and celebratory drinks reception at the Delicious Italian Garden Tea Rooms and bar which is all located within the Trentham Estate. Plus participating teams will get the chance to enjoy the spectacular gardens and retail village in-between races. This makes it an ideal opportunity for families and friends to enjoy the great atmosphere and camaraderie created by this exciting inclusive event. Plus, the Games and Cup’s have been proven to deliver of host of significant benefits to organisations like boosting morale and health and wellbeing in the workplace which is beneficial to companies of all sizes and kinds.
Teams are encouraged to bring along gazebo’s and fancy dress is also allowed – so take you chance to try dragonboat racing in 2016!
