Houston bouncing back after the Storm for the World Corporate Games

It is only a few weeks ago that Houston was hit by powerful storms that caused widespread flooding to homes and businesses in the area.  As the television cameras revealed, the human cost was high and we offer our sincere condolences to everyone effected by the flooding and to everyone who lost friends and relatives to the overpowering waters.  The thoughts of the Worldwide Corporate Sports Community have been with you during this difficult time for you and your great City.

Inevitably sensible questions have been raised by potential competing organisations and individuals planning to attend the World Corporate Games in Houston from the 16th-19th November.  Getting the City back to normal has been the immediate concern of everyone in the area and these aims have been understandable and supported.

An Iconic View of the Marriott Marquis in Houston, Texas

However, following discussions with the senior leaders of the Games in Houston, we are pleased to confirm that the Staff and systems in place in Houston are all OK and the team are confident that the City will recover very quickly. Indeed the resilient Mayor Turner, has reiterated strongly that Houston is very much “open for business again”, with sport and tourism also still on the agenda for this powerful destination City.

Houston is the 4th Largest City in the USA and it has also been listed in the Forbes list of best destinations to visit.

Please see below the Official Statement from the Harris County Houston Sports Authority.

“Dear World Corporate Games Participants,

It’s hard to put into words what has happened to our City over the last two weeks as a result of Hurricane Harvey. We are encouraged by the efforts of the countless volunteers and donations that poured in locally and from around the country to make a difference. We have a long road to recovery and our thoughts go out to everyone in the City of Houston and Gulf coast who was effected by the storm.

First, we wanted to check-in and survey where each of you, your organizations, and neighborhoods stand. Please, let us know if we can be of any assistance to you, your friends, neighbors, or company. We know that so many of our neighbors have been deeply affected by the storm, and we are here to stand by their side.

As we look to the future, Houston will undoubtedly rebound and come back stronger and better than ever. We received some questions as to the status of the Games in light of the storm, and we’re happy to report that just like the spirit of Houston, the World Corporate Games 2017 are alive and well. As Mayor Turner said “…we are getting back on our feet and we are open for business.” And what better way to get to get back to business and show that we are Houston Strong! As we continue to unearth the needs of our City in the coming weeks and months, help us use the Games to make a difference.

What an amazing opportunity to uplift and support our community through sports. Nelson Mandela once said that “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does.” Help us show the world just how united and inspired Houston truly is!  As part of our continued mission to give back, we’ve come up with a couple of ways to thank our first responders who unselfishly served so many in their greatest time of need.

Support Our First Responders!

  1. All corporate teams can participate in our Buy-One, Give-One campaign.  We will match each individual registration from your team and coordinate the donation of a free registration, one for one, to Hurricane Harvey first responders, or you can use the Buy-One, Give-One to distribute to unsung heroes in your own community.
  2. Can’t participate?  You can Donate Registrations to First Responders.  We will distribute and coordinate the teams on your behalf.

We are looking forward to bringing our community together and opening our doors to others for a weekend of fun, team building, and celebration!

Sincerely,

Harris County Houston Sports Authority”

As you can see, there is an inspiring message from Houston and a powerful cause and we are all hopeful that this can be one of the most uplifting and wonderful World Corporate Games to date.  The Organising Committee strongly believe that they will be ready to welcome each and every one of you to participate in the Games in November.

Thank you for your support and once again our best wishes go to everyone troubled by the storms, which are hopefully now behind them.  Hope to see you in Houston soon…

World Corporate Cup of Dragon Boat Racing Enjoyed by Everyone

Trentham Gardens was the idyllic destination for the World Corporate Cup of Dragonboat Racing this weekend (16th September 2017).  After fabulous World Corporate Cup experiences in Triathlon in recent weeks and in Soccer for more than a decade, this time the competition was on the water, following the success of the Europe Corporate Cup at the same destination in 2016!

Crews from across the region and from throughout the UK pitched their gazebos and paddled their hearts out in this event for businesses and organisations of all kinds.

The SuperCentre Celebration registration took place at Cadwaladers Cafe, with many competitors taking the opportunity to sample the warm drinks on offer to counteract the early morning September chill.  All competitors received a Games T-shirt, a souvenir programme, their ID badge as well as a decorative “Weekend Sports Warrior” coaster from Games sponsors Wade Ceramics.

Vibrant SuperCentre at Cadwaladers

Once registered they entered the Gardens and admired the beautiful surroundings before undertaking their racing and safety briefings and getting their buoyancy aids and paddles.

As the racing commenced there were some competitive battles taking place with every encounter.  Each crew would battle it out in 3 x 333m heats to post their fastest time across the 1000m challenge!  However, there were a few showpiece encounters spicing up the proceedings with Stoke-On-Trent City Council and Newcastle Borough Council locking horns as well as Nottinghamshire and Staffordshire Police respectively.

Previous entrants Mitten Clarke were looking fluid in their white strips and the pale blue shirts of Wade Ceramics were looking good too.  Both of these crews were improving with every race.

The Walton Centre, Mellors Catering services and Stoke fit looked to be having heaps of fun and there were some incredibly close races across the day.

The Lord and Lady Mayoress had dropped by to support the event which was really appreciated by everyone in attendance and the Chief Executive of the Games Official Charity, David Webster of the Dougie Mac Hospice was also supporting the Cup.

David Webster is seen here presenting one of the impressive hand crafted, Wade Ceramics World Corporate Cup Awards, to the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Stoke-On-Trent, in recognition of the City’s support for the Cup as part of the City of Sport Legacy programme.

After some exhilarating racing for everyone involved we moved to establish the top 8 positions with 3 spectacular finals. Some of the races were so close that we needed a photo finish to separate the teams.

The Grand Final was all set up to be a closely contested encounter with the experienced Nottinghamshire Police crew taking on the youthful apprentices from Goodwin PLC and Phil Fortunes fit band of friends from Staffordshire Police.

The Grand final did not disappoint, with all three of the finalists competing for the medals and each of the crews posting their fastest times from the whole day!

The Top 10 placings were as follows but everyone had a wonderful experience.

In the Worldwide Corporate Sport Community we firmly believe that everyone who takes part is a winner and the spirit from the competitors in this event was a joy to behold.

Local Paralympic Medalists, Ian Marsden and Jenny Booth were on hand to present the worthy winners and runners up with their medals. The winners of the World Corporate Cup of Dragonboat Racing  2017 are Nottinghamshire Police, with Goodwin PLC a creditable 2nd and Staffordshire Police proudly taking 3rd place on the podium.

The Corporate Games would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone connected with this great event at Trentham Gardens.  Thank you for your support and hope to see you all involved in the UK Corporate Games Stoke On Trent and Staffordshire 2018 in June.

UK Corporate Games Nottingham 2017 Hailed as a Resounding Success

Organisers, Partners, Sponsors, Participants and helpers have all hailed the positive impact of the UK Corporate Games 2017.

More than £3.8m was generated for Nottinghamshire’s economy by the UK Corporate Games, it is estimated.

Nottingham hosted Europe’s largest annual multi-sport festival for businesses from July 6 to 9, with more than 5,000 people taking part in 23 activities at venues around the city, including the University of Nottingham, Colwick Park and Wollaton Hall.

Intel, IBM, Ernst & Young, Lloyds Banking Group, Vodafone, Boots, Speedo, Willmott Dixon, Asda and Capital One were among the companies represented.

Games Director Ben Sedgemore said: “The Games has been a resounding success and we could not have asked for more – even the weather was on our side.

“The facilities are excellent in Nottinghamshire, with top quality venues for all of our 23 sports and array of celebrations.

“The feedback that we have been receiving has been wonderful and it is a credit to everyone who has supported the Games.

“People have been blown away by Nottingham and we are delighted that we made the decision to bring the Games here in 2017. Thank you so much.”

Andrew May, general manager at Nottingham Conferences, the group that promotes the University of Nottingham’s conference venues, added: “This was a great opportunity to bring the city together to put Nottingham on the map, to benefit local businesses and for us to showcase our £40m David Ross Sports Village, the latest addition to an already stellar collection of state-of-the-art sporting facilities available here at the university.

“The atmosphere on campus was outstanding and this event will live long in the memory.”

Employees at organisations, companies, corporations and institutions all battled it out for points, medals and company pride.

The winners came from all across the country and local teams also won a number of the medals.

Vodafone won the Sport for Life Grand award and the medallist award, while Nottinghamshire Police was the top local performer, finishing second in the overall medal table with 48 medals.

Inspector Paul Harris said “I cannot describe how impressed we all were with the Games this weekend.

“My whole organisation is buzzing, and I’m seeing competitors and medallists alike acknowledging each other and ‘high fiving’ on corridors where previously they would have passed in silence, so I’m not overstating the positive effect this event has had.

“Sports sections have been reinvigorated, friendships and bonds have been rediscovered, and I’ve even seen pictures of medallists up in the office to welcome them back.”

A team from Nottingham Forest won the 11-a-side football tournament and Boots also secured medals in a number of sports to finish 21st in the medal table from 123 organisations that were represented.

The University of Nottingham’s multisport complex was the epicentre of the Games, providing many of the facilities for the 23 sports.

This includes its new £40m David Ross Sports Village, which houses a huge multi-court sports hall, seven glass squash courts and an international standard table tennis hall.

UK Corporate Games Nottingham 2017 partners with Dame Kelly Holmes Trust

Europe’s largest annual multi sports festival for organisations and business people will be coming to Nottingham from 6th – 9th July 2017.

The Games are set to be a resounding success with many of the UK’s top companies already having entered alongside businesses of all sizes and type from Nottingham and across the East Midlands.  However, the Games team have also recently struck up another partnership with charity Dame Kelly Holmes Trust.  The Trust has been unveiled as the Official Sporting Ambassador Programme provider at a presentation in Nottingham on 21st February.

Dame Kelly Holmes Trust

The Dame Kelly Holmes Trust does amazing work, developing world class athletes beyond sport and then works with them to deliver programmes that transform the lives of young people facing disadvantage.

The Games is an event aimed at competitors of all ages and abilities and both organisations hope the partnership will lead to opportunities and benefits for everyone involved.

Dame Kelly Holmes “I’m really pleased that the Trust’s world class athlete talent will be present at this year’s UK Corporate Games in Nottingham.  Our athletes undergo comprehensive training and development to ensure they continue their high performance beyond sport.  I know they’ll be tremendous ambassadors and motivators for the teams taking part and hopefully continue to be involved post-Games to help establish a culture of high performance within each organisations workplace.”

– Dame Kelly Holmes, President and founder of the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust

Ben Sedgemore, Games Director for the UK Corporate Games Nottingham 2017 said: “We are delighted to partner with Dame Kelly Holmes Trust as we have seen the fabulous opportunities that the Trust creates for athletes on their life journey as well as helping to develop individuals from hard to reach groups.  These outcomes benefit everyone which is exactly the same ethos as our own.”

“When we deliver the UK Corporate Games everyone wins from the organisations to the companies to the local venues and economy, the host destination and its businesses; not to mention the local helpers and sport coordinators who are all trained, supported and given all of the same benefits and opportunities as the entrants.  You can’t beat a win-win!”

“We are thrilled that Nottingham has been selected as the host city for the 2017 UK Corporate Games.  The Games provide the ultimate mix of sport, business and tourism and we will be working hard with the organisers and partners to ensure they will be the most successful ever.”

“We are building a strong reputation as an event city and a home for major sporting events; the UK Corporate Games event is a great example of the kind of high profile event we can host.”

Major employers like Freeths, Asda and Ernst & Young have signed up hundreds of entrants for the Games, but they will be competing against large and small organisations from the locality and across the UK.  However it is important to stress that the Games is open to any organisation and every business is welcomed equally.

Participants can choose to enter any one of the 23 sports on offer – from netball to football, running to dragonboat racing and golf to go karting.  Many of the sports will be taking place at The University of Nottingham’s new £40m David Ross Sports Village.  The Centre houses a huge multi-court sports hall, seven glass squash courts and an international standard Table Tennis hall in addition to impressive accommodation in the surrounding area.  The Great Games Party will showcase a different venue as the Nottingham Trent Students Union has been selected to stage this major Games component.

Marie Robson, Employee Engagement Manager at the Trust said: “We have some great packages to motivate, inspire and support the company’s success at the Games.  With athletes from a variety of sporting careers, and several who have gone on to achieve coaching and personal training qualifications, we look forward to meeting as many teams ahead of the Games as possible, plus there’s an option for an athlete to join teams and compete, however, not in their career sport of course”.

Joanne Jackson, Olympic Bronze Medallist made an inspiring appearance on the night and the invited guests enjoyed a really interesting question and answer session with her facilitated by Louisa Preston of BBC London News (see headline picture).  Joanne revealed how she challenged peoples doubts about her ability into relentless hard work and determination which ultimately enabled her to realise her dream of standing on the podium in the Olympics in Beijing.

Representatives from interested businesses and organisations can reserve places at one of the Games’ presentations to find out more about the event’s benefits and the opportunities that the Trust offers to organisations of all sizes. For those interested in visiting Nottingham and learning more about the plans, there will be a venue tour known as the Team Leader Orientation Event that will visit most of the Games Venues on the afternoon of 7th March.

UK Corporate Games chooses local Children’s Brain Tumour Charity for 2017

The UK Corporate Games is proud to announce that the Nottingham’s Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre has been named as the official charity for 2017.

Open to companies of all sizes, the UK Corporate Games will be held 6th – 9th July 2017 at the David Ross Sports Village at the University of Nottingham and a number of other great venues in the region.

We’re looking forward to the Games and proud to be supporting this local charity in Nottingham. They’re doing great work to tackle such a terrible disease. Companies that choose a charity of the year to benefit from their team building activities find that the cause brings people together from across the organisation in ways that they wouldn’t be able to achieve otherwise.

Ben Sedgemore, UK Games Director

The Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre works to tackle some of the most challenging issues in brain tumour treatment. On average, children in the UK wait up to three times longer for a brain tumour diagnosis than those in other developed countries. The Headsmart campaign aims to double survival rates and halve the harm caused by brain tumours and the aggressive treatments that need to be used to eradicate tumour cells.

The opportunity to connect with members of the Worldwide Corporate Games Community was an unexpected and delightful development. May the best man or woman win!

Prolonged and slow diagnosis can make long-term survivors up to ten times more likely to suffer from a physical or learning impairment, while some treatments can have long-lasting effects including learning difficulties, hearing loss and problems with physical development.

The Centre for Children’s Brain Tumour Research are eager to find other companies and supporters who can help them to continue their work. Academics at The University of Nottingham are leading the UK arm of a large international clinical trial for a type of children’s brain tumour called Ependymoma. The trial will treat around 150 children and young people in the UK and 350 from around the world, helping to determine the best ways to treat tumours.

Researchers aim to find the most successful treatment option with the fewest side effects for patients and to learn more about the biology of the disease. The trial will run for five years and follow patients for up to ten years.

Nottingham companies who have yet to choose a charity for 2017 can get in touch with the Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre to find out more about how they can work together by emailing Louise Shaw louise.shaw@nottingham.ac.uk or calling 0115 74 84809.

Corporate Cup Programme Hailed as Great Success in Stoke

The Europe Corporate Cup programme came to a spectacular conclusion on Saturday with visitors from far and wide heralding the events as a wonderful success. The players played, the paddlers paddled and the sun shone brightly on all of the friends, families and supporters throughout the day!

With the City of Stoke on Trent celebrating its status as European City of Sport 2016, competitors came from far and wide to participate in the Europe Corporate Cup’s of Netball and Dragonboat Racing.

The Dragonboat Racing honours were won exclusively by teams from outside of the County with National Grid taking First place, QVC from Merseyside taking second and UClan from Preston securing 3rd.  That said the Pirates from Portmeirion and Team Open also won a few hearts!

img_0465 Councillor Terry Follows, cabinet member for greener city, development and leisure at the city council, said: “We’re very pleased the organisers have decided to bring these events to our city. The Corporate Games last year were a huge success and left people in no doubt not only of our ability to stage high-profile events, but also the quality of sporting facilities we have to offer. This is another example of how being the UK’s European City of Sport is raising our profile and helping us to attract events like these, which might not have come here in the past. The influx of visitors which these events will bring gives a welcome boost to our local tourism sector”.  Actions speak louder than words though, with Cllr Follows actually participating in the event, proudly banging the Dragonboat Drum for the City with his colleagues.  The Lord Mayor Cllr Anthony Munday also showed that he was also up for the challenge by paddling away with Angela Smith and other members of the Council team.

The Europe Corporate Cup of Netball saw local teams perform even better with the City Council securing a deserved 2nd place over a strong Ernst and Young team from London who finished 3rd.  However, Staffordshire Police were again the queens of the Courts as they won all seven of their pool and elimination games which saw them crowned worthy champions.  Victoria Pritchard of England Netball was involved in the delivery of the event and she said “It was terrific to work with the Corporate Games team and the City of Stoke for this inaugural event.  The spirit and camaraderie on the day was exemplary and the standard of facilities at Fenton Manor was excellent.  We would encourage teams of all abilities to consider getting involved next year as we know you won’t regret it.”

Ben Sedgemore, Games Director said, “we would like to thank everyone who assisted and participated in the Europe Corporate Cup programme this year.  We are fortunate to stage Games and Cups in great Cities all around the world but we are proud to say that Stoke On Trent is one of our favourite destinations.  The local leaders are pushing hard to put this great City onto the international sporting map as well as creating a lasting sporting legacy for the City.  We support everything they are trying to achieve and everyone in the area should be proud of the aspirations that the City has.  We are already looking forward to next year and everyone can be involved again!

They are looking for short stories which capture your memories of the day, your training mishaps or adventures, what inspired you to enter – anything and everything that captures the spirit of the Cup’s.  We’d love to hear your voice through your words and pictures (photos capturing your day are very welcome). A 20 word poem is fine, or anything up to a 2,000 word story – it’s up to you. As many contributions as possible will be published on Cox Bank Publishing’s website and the best ones will have a chance of being published in a book later this year, celebrating Stoke-on-Trent’s sporting year.  Note that by “best” we mean funny, sad, thought-provoking, inspiring, memorable, or just plain entertaining – your words, about your experience. The brand new Europe Corporate Cup of Soccer was a hit!

ECCS MEDALISTS
Europe Corporate Cup of Soccer medallists

The inaugural Europe Corporate Cup of Soccer took place over the weekend, in association with Stoke City Council, Stoke City Football Club and Staffordshire University. The Cup kicked off the start of a brand new series of events in Stoke, which will later see a Europe Corporate Cup of Netball and a Europe Corporate Cup of Dragon boat racing come to the City in September (16th and 17th) . It was a great weekend that showcased some of the best sporting venues and facilities in the region and there were some powerful local organisations that took part from the likes of JCB, Bentley Motors and Michelin Tyres who joined other sporty businesses from across the UK to compete!

Stoke-on-Trent was recently awarded European City of Sport status following the successful staging of the UK Corporate Games in the region in 2015. Since receiving this impressive accolade, Stoke-on-Trent has been extremely proactive in marketing the City as a desirable host location for international, national and local sporting events and we are proud that the brand new series of Europe Corporate Cups have become top quality additions to the extensive European City of Sport programme.

ECCS TOUR
A selection of the visitors to the Bet 365 Britannia Stadium tour

The weekend kicked off on the Saturday at Staffordshire University, where everybody played their matches on the well-marked pitches at Staffordshire University. We were incredibly lucky with the weather as it was a beautiful day and it set the tone nicely for the rest of the weekend.

As well as the sporting competition taking place, on the Saturday evening we invited everyone to come along to the Britannia Stadium where were lucky enough to have an interesting tour of the Stadium, where we were given access to the impressive home and away dressing rooms, the mascot room, interview and media rooms and we were given the best possible views of the stadium and pitch before having a private viewing of the UEFA Champions League Final in the 1863 Lounge. It was a great evening and a hopefully a nice way to relax before the finals kicked off the following day.

ECCS CLAYTON PITCHES
Immaculate Surfaces at the Clayton Wood Training Ground

The finals were over at Clayton Wood Training Ground on Sunday morning, which is home to the Stoke City players. The pitches and the whole complex were absolutely fantastic and the staff were extremely accommodating and helpful to us and everyone taking part, as each team was allocated to a changing room.

A series of exciting knockout matches ensued and the pristine surfaces.

The final match of the weekend saw Stoneleigh Architectural Services from Wolverhampton take on Kangs RBS Group from Warwickshire to decide this year Champions. Both teams gave it there absolute all and it was a thrilling final to watch.  Players from the eliminated teams had all been keen to stay to watch this showpiece spectacle and the atmosphere was electric with sizeable numbers crowding around the pitch to watch the action.

Tied at 1-1 at full time, the youthful RBS team took a deserved 3-1 lead in the warm sunshine in the first period of extra time.  However, the more experienced Stoneleigh side kept plugging away and snatched an equaliser with only seconds remaining to make it 3-3.  Penalties ensued but who would come out on top?  Maybe the late comeback had taken something out of RBS.  In the tense shootout Stoneleigh kept their nerve to secure a 4-3 win on penalties!

There was regional glory for Bentley Motors Limited though who managed to beat local rivals Michelin Tyres in a high scoring 3rd place playoff to secure a medal.

The new Lord Mayor Councillor Anthony Munday commented on the great spirit in the Cup as he presented a special City of Stoke On Trent China plate to the Man of the match from Stoneleigh.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved, we hope you all enjoyed yourselves and we look forward to seeing you soon! We are now more excited than ever to return to Stoke in September with the Europe Corporate Cup of Netball and the Europe Corporate Cup of Dragon boat racing, which will both take place simultaneously in the City, from Friday 16th – Saturday 17th September.

The Magic Bank Account…

The magic bank account

Imagine that you won the following prize in a contest:

Each morning your bank would deposit £86,400 in your private account for you to spend.
However there were some rules:

1. Everything that you didn’t spend during each day would be taken away from you.

2. You can’t transfer money into another account, you can only spend it.

4. Each morning when you wake up, the bank puts another £86,400 in your account.

5. The bank can end the game without warning; at any time. It can simply say ‘game over’ and close the account and you won’t get a new one.

What Would You Do?
You would buy anything and everything you wanted. Not only for yourself, but for all the people you love and care for. Even for people you don’t know, because you couldn’t possibly spend it all on yourself.

You would try to spend every penny, and use it all, because you knew it would be replenished in the morning.
Actually, this game is real, each of us is already a winner of this prize and we just can’t seem to see it.
The prize is time.

1. Each morning we wake to receive 86,400 seconds as a gift of life.
2. And when we go to sleep at night, any remaining time is not credited to us.
3. What we haven’t used up that day is forever lost.
4. Yesterday is forever gone.
5. Each morning the account is refilled, but the bank can dissolve your account at any time without warning.

So, what will you do with your 86,400 seconds?
Those seconds are worth so much more than the same amount in pounds.
Think about it and remember to enjoy every second of your life, because time races by so much quicker than you think.

So take care of yourself, be happy, love deeply and enjoy life!
Here’s wishing you a wonderful and beautiful day. Start spending.

NB- The Games Staff were not the author’s of this original concept and we have been unable to reference who put it together first.  It was sent to us and we all liked it so wanted to share it with you…Hope it inspires you too.

It’s been a phenomenal year for the Corporate Games!

merry xmas card

2015 has been a fantastic year for us at the Corporate Games! We have managed to stage huge Games all over the world, from Stoke and Staffs to Sydney,Transylvania to Tokyo Each Games has been different but each has been a wonderful success in it’s own special way.

The Games has always sought to improve the health and wellbeing of staff from businesses of all shapes, sizes and sectors, and this year has been no exception. Your feedback has been brilliant and so motivating; we can clearly see the positive impact that the Games has made in the workplace to so many organisations around the world by encouraging employees to be active and take up sport whilst having a great time with your colleagues.

The year kicked off with a bang with a brand new Games in Asia. The Okinawa Corporate Games was a resounding success in its inaugural year.  The Corporate Games Team in Okinawa did an amazing job of organising and preparing the Games and it has to be applauded for the incredible welcome that they gave entrants from all across the world as well as the precision of the event delivery.  Hundreds of organisations across Japan fully embracing the Games and all it has to offer. The Games saw teams of all sizes come together for a weekend of fun and sporting competition, everyone had such a good time and this success has built a strong platform for the Games on the Island in 2016 and beyond.

In the UK, the summer was once again another huge season. With the World Corporate Cup of Soccer taking place in May in association with West Ham United FC at Upton Park and the UK Corporate Games taking place in June, hosted by Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire. Both events were hailed as hugely successful by the host destination and from all those who took part. Both weekends brought together organisations from all over the UK and across Europe and it was great to see so many existing and new businesses represented and having such a great time.  Furthermore, magnificent Games took place in Bucharest, Cape Town, Monterrey in Mexico, Istanbul and Annecy in France.

However, there were even more major events in the calendar for us this year, with the World Corporate Games in Mexico City and the Asia-Pacific Corporate Games in Tokyo, both events took place on the same weekend in November and highlighted the global reach of the Worldwide Corporate Games Community. We were delighted to see these Games were very well-attended after of all of the hard work that had gone in to both events and its was fantastic to see thousands of people from individual sole traders, right up to huge multi-national market leaders take part in the Games. Mexico City was an impressive host for the World Corporate Games but next year this prestigious Games will move to a different world-renowned City, so watch this space for the announcement of the next World Corporate Games. Also, due to the Success of the Asia-Pacific Corporate Games,   the Japanese Corporate Games Team have confirmed a 2016 Games in the Capital city once more.

November was arguably the biggest month in the Corporates Games calendar this year, or perhaps of all time. With the World Corporate Games and the Asia-pacific Corporate Games taking place at the same time, as well as the massive Australian Corporate Games.  Australia hosts three editions of the Corporate Games each year. In Queensland and New South Wales earlier in the year and then finally in November for the Melbourne edition. The Australian Corporate Games is always one of the best attended Corporate Games and it has regularly attracted up to 10,000 participants from hundreds of organisations across Australia and further afield.

On behalf of us all here at the World Headquarters of the Corporate Games, we would like to thank you all for your continued support and efforts in all of our Games around the world. This year has been another superb year on the Corporate Games calendar, and will be one to remember.

Thank you once again to all those who have taken part in the Corporate Games this year and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. We are looking forward to 2016 and all the new Games that have been scheduled around the world, so watch this space for updates in the new year and we hope to see you very soon. To all of you that celebrate, we wish you a great Christmas with all your family and friends and we hope you all have a happy and successful new year with many more to come.

Mexico City was delighted to have delivered the successful bid to host the World Corporate Games 2015 and as the 6th largest city in the world and is a crucial cultural, financial and political centre. The Mexico Corporate Games team have been working hard since the announcement to make it a resounding success for local entrants and for those that have travelled across the Globe; the team have managed to secure the most athletes ever in Mexico for this edition of the Games, so it is sure to have a busy and international feel to it. Team AXA, Sodexo and Lloyds Banking Group are just a few of the teams that have secured their complimentary places in the Games having gained first place winners certificates in the UK Corporate Games 2015. Hundreds of other organisations from across Mexico and further afield like Israel and Istanbul are scheduled to take part and every sport on the programme is expected to be a real competition for the benefit of all taking part.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, the Tokyo team have been working towards the first edition of the inaugural Asia-Pacific Corporate Games, which also takes place this weekend. With over 8,000 entrants confirmed from a vast array of organisations, the Tokyo team have done a fantastic job at securing businesses from across Tokyo, mainland Japan and overseas to take part.  Vodafone UK (who signed up to enter 300 entrants in the Europe Corporate Games Liverpool 2016 this week) are just one of the overseas organisations competing in the Basketball in Tokyo and hopefully this will be a wonderful competition for everyone involved. Tokyo is an extremely advanced and modern City and it is sure to be a great host City for the Games. The Tokyo Corporate Games team have managed to secure a number of venues that are located in the impressive Tokyo Bayside area.  This destination which will be home to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, so it will be exciting for our everyday athletes to have the opportunity to visit these great sporting facilities before the international athletes descend on the city in less than 5 years time.

The Okinawa team are preparing for a huge Games in March 2016!

The Great Games Party – Okinawa 2015

Preparations are now well underway in Japan for the Okinawa edition of the Corporate Games. The Games will commence in March 2016,  after a huge team effort from the Okinawa Corporate Games Executive Committee and a great deal of anticipation from those taking part and the wider Worldwide Corporate Games Community. The Games will showcase the very best venue on the Island and will give businesses from all over the world the chance to experience the fantastic sporting facilities and services that Okinawa has to offer.

Here at the World Headquarters of the Corporate Games, we are thrilled for the Okinawa team and are very excited for the Games to commence next year. Japan as a whole, is a great host for the Corporate Games, with a superb Okinawa Games taking place earlier in the year and a hugely anticipated Asia-Pacific Corporate Games taking place in Tokyo next month.  The Corporate Games is continuing to grow in popularity in Japan, as it is an extremely hard-working, high achieving and active country. Those that are keen to visit the beautiful Island of Okinawa will get the chance to build relationships with the Okinawan people and businesses.  It is a wonderful experience to get a taste of their culture and they are famous across the world for their hospitable and friendly welcoming nature.  So we would be delighted to strongly encourage any organisations, from neighbouring countries or further afield to visit this fantastic part of the world and take advantage of the fantastic opportunities that exists with the Games over there.

The Grand Parade of Athletes – Okinawa 2015

The Games next year are set to be huge, with organisations of all sizes signing up to compete in one of the world’s largest annual multi-sport festivals for business. The Okinawa Corporate Games will feature 16 great sports on to the programme.  2016 will be the second edition of the Games there after an incredibly successful and impressive inaugural Games earlier this year. There truly is something for everybody on the programme, including: badminton, baseball, basketball, dragon boat racing, soft darts, futsal, relay marathon, softball, table tennis, tenpin bowling, volleyball and open water swimming.

The open water swimming in particular, is being tipped by the Okinawan team to be one of the most popular sports on the programme. Partly due to the International Olympic Committee having recently confirmed a 10km-marathon open water swim as part of the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro as well as part of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games schedule. However, the open water swimming competition is also expected to be very popular for the Corporate Games in Okinawa because of the comfortable sea temperature of 21C and the beautiful setting of the emerald blue pacific by the chatan-town coastline, where the event will take place. The swim has also been split into three separate routes to accommodate swimmers of all different abilities, including: a ‘shorter’ 1.2km course for those who wish to experience distance swimming in the sea – perhaps for the first time, a 3.1km route for those who enjoy the thrill and challenge of distance open-water swimming and enjoy healthy competition and finally, a 5/10km route for competitive athletes who might like to use the Games for training or competitive purposes.
